PMP lends a helping hand to charity
A team of building surveyors and project managers from PMP lent a helping hand recently to the Harmeny Education Trust.
The team including – Chris Hay, Ben Raleigh, Alex Bowie, Kevin Sweeney, Alice Hargest and Andrew Black – swapped their desk jobs, to get stuck into helping the charity to improve its outdoor space.
Harmeny is a charity that provides activities, therapies and opportunities for children and young people to help them rediscover their childhood and heal from trauma.
Speaking of his experience, Chris Hay, PMP Project Director, said: “My reflections are that it was a valiant effort, with a brilliant team supporting an incredible charity. I wouldn’t change a thing, but I would suggest we look for more opportunities like this in the future. It feels great to give back to the local community and support such a fantastic cause.”
His words were backed by colleagues who enjoyed donating their time, effort and sometimes (skills!). “It is a fantastic facility you have, and it sounds like incredible, and challenging work that Harmeny does. To be able to contribute to even a small part of that was a real privilege. I, for one, would jump at the chance to help out again in the future,” said Ben Raleigh.
PMP began its relationship with the charity when they formed part of the design team that developed a new Learning Hub for the Harmeny Education Trust, a project which has enabled Harmeny to extend their secondary education service and means that young people no longer have to leave Harmeny at 14 years old.
Since then, we have supported the charity through fundraising events such as scaling the heights of the Kelpies to raise funds, purchasing Christmas presents for the children and now to lending our skills to create better outdoor spaces.
Alison Acosta, Harmeny’s Fundraising and Communications Manager added: “It was a real pleasure to have the PMP team at Harmeny. Many hands make light work, and the team helped us restore pathways that were damaged during the storms earlier this year. Our volunteers are a vital part of our community and with their help, we can continue to provide the best therapeutic spaces for our young people and those that support their care and learning.”
