PMP Attends Installation of Glasgow Caledonian University’s New Principal
PMP was proud to be present at a landmark moment in the history of Glasgow Caledonian University, as Professor Mairi Watson was officially installed as the institution’s new Principal and Vice-Chancellor.
Held in the Annie Lennox Building at GCU’s city centre campus, the ceremony marked a significant milestone, not only for the university, but for the many organisations and individuals whose lives have been shaped by it.
Among those in attendance was PMP Managing Director and GCU alumnus, Stewart Rutherford, invited by the University in recognition of the relationship between PMP and the university.
The installation took place during GCU’s 150th anniversary year with addresses from Chancellor Professor Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, Chair of Court Yvette Hopkins, former Student President Tomisin Osinubi, and current Student President Chinaenyenwa Ugo; each reflecting on the university’s proud legacy and its ambitions for the future.
Award-winning actress Dr Blythe Duff gave a reading of Letters to Glasgow by poet Imtiaz Dharker, while GCU student Finlay Williamson performed a stirring rendition of Caledonian.
For PMP, the invitation to attend was a reflection of a relationship that goes beyond business. Through the PMP Scholarship Programme, the company provides financial support to undergraduate students studying Quantity Surveying or Building Surveying, disciplines central to PMP’s own work and to the future of the construction industry.
The programme is designed to make a real difference to students from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds, reducing financial pressure so they can focus on their studies, their development, and their careers. It is part of PMP’s broader commitment to widening access to the industry and helping to address the growing shortage of skilled professionals in construction across Scotland.
